Our Lido Market Experience
The Lido Market provides cafeteria style dining on the Lido Deck. Guests make selections at multiple stations located in the center of the Lido Market. Nearly identical stations are located on both the port and starboard side, with seating located near the windows. These stations include Rise, Breadboard, Wild Harvest, Distant Lands (Italian and Asian) Roasting Pan, Homestead, and Sweet Spot. The food selections at these stations are extensive and provide selections that meet the needs of most cultures and diets. However, the names of the stations are a little confusing, and do not always reflect what is being served at the individual stations. You may have to visit multiple stations to get all the items you want to eat, but after a few visits you do get the hang of it.
Lines often are long at some of these stations - especially at the station serving ice cream and cakes to order. Crowds and seating are often problematic, especially at the most popular dining hours. It can be difficult to carry your plates and dishes to the seating area, especially since trays are no longer provided and guests do not always pay attention to where they are going. Fortunately, drinks are served at your table by Lido staff. We suggest that when selecting soup, take an empty tall coffee cup from that station and give it to the server to use in place of a bowl. It will be much easier to carry that to your table than trying to manage a shallow soup bowl on a small plate as you work your way to the table.
Since Dining Room lunch is not served on embarkation day, we did eat lunch in the Lido Market after embarking at around 11:00 am. The selections on that day were extensive. We especially enjoyed the custom sliced roast beef (some of the best we have ever had - medium rare and tender with little fat and outstanding taste) and chicken noodle soup (served with fresh noodles added by the servers). On another day I had the custom-made Caesar salad which was very good. And of course, the ice cream selections (dishes and cones) are always a hit. Marney loves the Bread Pudding and on several days went to the Lido just to enjoy it.
We ate breakfast at the Lido Market on days where Brunch was served in the Main Dining Room because Breakfast was not served in the Main Dining Room on those days. For breakfast we enjoyed the made-to-order Crepes, Eggs Benedict and Omelets. These items are all made-to-order to your preferences.
We only ate in the Lido Market on days where breakfast or lunch were not being served in the Main Dining Room. The food served in the Lido Market was in general very good for most items that we selected, but for some it was hit or miss. Unlike the outstanding sliced beef served on embarkation, we found that the sliced meat served on other days was not as good. Some fish dishes served in the Lido Market were not that good, a sharp contrast to the outstanding fresh fish served in the Main Dining Room.
The food quality in the Lido Market was in general quite good. We did find that our experience in the Lido Market was much better if we went at a time that avoided peak dining hours. Selecting off-peak times was less hectic and made the dining experience more enjoyable.
